I love a listserv. I love having e-mail coming directly in my in-box. I love a digest form, so my inbox doesn't get super-cluttered. I like how a listserv is semi-private, usually open only to members of the list, as opposed to a message board, where your messages are out there for all to see. I especially love being part of the community that belonging to a listserv provides.
