I’ve written about this website in the Russia adoption blog, but in case you weren’t around that day or didn’t care because it was about Russia, I want to mention it again for those of you who have or are thinking about adopting internationally: Kids Culture Center.

The site contains links and/or kid-friendly activites for the countries of Russia, Mexico, Guatemala, China, Korea, India, Vietnam and soon, Ethiopia and Ukraine,

Here’s how Barbara Blackwell, the owner of Kids Culture Center, describes her site:

Welcome to KidsCultureCenter.com, “virtual” culture camp for the families of international adoption.

Here you will find information about customs, traditions, celebrations and holidays from around the world.

Teaching children about their native countries gives them a sense of pride in and a connection to that country; it provides the child with a sense of roots. Having knowledge about their birth country, its location, people and history empowers children and greatly enhances their self-esteem.

The kids’ activities on the pages are pretty basic: coloring pages, mostly, but this is a great place to start if you are looking for simple activities for your child. Little J, my Russian adopted son (age 4) has just started getting interested in coloring and doing “school work” i.e. sit-down activities and so this type of thing is right up his alley.
