Here are some news articles that focus on adoption. Kind of. Some (like the first one) are less news-worthy than others…so read at your own risk.
Madonna and husband to adopt African twins. Maybe? Maybe not? It’s kind of surprising, actually, but if they do – good for them. No doubt they’ll go on record later in the day…
Dear Abby asks “desperate mom” to write back. A couple of weeks ago a woman wrote to Dear Abby, saying she had given birth to a baby with her husband who’s in the military (apparently at his request) and she did not love the baby, hadn’t bonded with the baby, and he was always away…and when he was home he didn’t take care of the baby either. Anny recommended that she look into adoption. Now, on one e-mail list on which I lurk people were appalled that Abby would suggest this. I honestly am not sure why, since unless this woman has a change of heart and mind and gets some kind of support I think it would be much better for the child to live with a family that loves and attaches to him than with a woman who sounded like she couldn’t stand the baby and actively resented him. But then again, I’m on the adoptive parent side of the fence, aren’t I? So Dear Abby got a ton of mail and now she wants the woman to write her back. There’s been an outpouring of support as well as offers by prospective adoptive parents to take care of the baby.
This article is not about adoption because apparently none of their mother’s 15 children were adopted, but 14 of the 15 of the Radclif siblings didn’t live with her, and now they’re having a reunion. Kind of bittersweet, actually.
And finally, Working Mother has ranked their top 100 Family-Friendly workplaces. Benefits like adoption leave and adoption subsidies were part of the ranking.
And that’s all she wrote for today, folks!
