I hope that you enjoyed reading my story and learning about my experience with adoption. My road to parenthood was a long and difficult one, but it was worth all of the heartache along the way. We have now been a family for 6 years. I have almost forgotten what my life was like before having a child. So much of my life, both good and “bad,” revolves around being a mother. (I put “bad” in quotes because they are not “bad” things – just annoying things like being awakened at 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday. LOL)

Even though life before Nicholas seems like a million years ago, I will never forget the struggles of my years of hoping to adopt. I don’t want to forget them because, if I do, I cannot help other people who are now beginning the adoption process. These memories also help me to appreciate what a blessing Nicholas is, even when he is acting up. LOL

Now that you know my story, I am ready to start talking about various issues in detail. While I will reference my own experiences, this blog will be focused on various issues rather than on my own life. You get a say in what issues are discussed. Please let me know what issues you are interested in, and I will write about them.

As you might have noticed, I love to write. The words pour out of me no matter what topic I am discussing. So, I will frequently cover topics in a series. For example, I might put together a Top 10 list of things to do while you are waiting to be matched. The next several blogs will expand upon each of the items in the Top 10 list.

So far, the following topics have been suggested, so I will start with them.

  • How do you deal with annoying comments like “Why not just have another one of your own?” and, “Are you sure you’ll love them all the same?”
  • How does having a bio child affect the ability to adopt?

If you have other suggestions, let me know by leaving a comment here or e-mailing me at hopetoadoptblogger@adoptionmail.com.
