If you can get past the silly 90s slang, this is what my husband told me to write about: all the reasons why it would be a bad reason for us to adopt again. These are his reasons, not mine.
1. Two is enough. We probably don't give the two we have enough attention.
I totally disagree with this. I don't know where he gets 'we don't give them enough attention.' First, I don't think it's the parents job to entertain their children. They're there to parent their children. Second, my children have never been in daycare full-time and during the school year they are both picked up after school by me and spend the entire afternoon with me, except for the one afternoon a week they might have gymnastics or tennis or play with a friend or something like that. Weekends are spent as a family, except for the weekends he goes out of town, in which case the boys and I try to get together with my parents. My husband and I go out once a month and the kids go to friends' houses. I don't know what the heck he's talking about! Maybe he means he doesn't give them enough attention...
2. We have to deal with Little J's issues before we add another to the family.
Now this I agree with. But no one's talking about adding another kid now. I'm thinking that when Little J is 5 or 6 we try to adopt a 3 year old. Could happen.
3. It's more fun to do stuff with the boys now that they're older. Adding a baby to the mix will slow us down.
True, but that's why I'm thinking we shouldn't adopt a baby. But you know what? Even if we did adopt a baby I think we could make it work. The boys can go bungee jumping with their dad - I'll sit behind and jiggle that baby up and down while we watch the crazies do their thing.
4. Kids are expensive. How will we get the money to adopt? And if we did, one more kid will cost that much more.
Hmm. True. If we adopted from Russia again it probably would be expensive...but we could do foster-to-adopt or perhaps find a program that doesn't cost as much. Or maybe my next book might sell a million copies and we'll be rolling in clover. Right?
