Kindness from a stranger

Remember him?

This is Pepper. I found him in the middle of the road almost 3 weeks ago. His first owner called today...

I got the message when I got home from work and I burst into tears. We've seriously bonded with this dog. He sleeps with my 7-year-old. My cat has finally stopped peeing in the corner because of his presence. Plus, we've spent at least $200 between the vet and the pet store.

It had been 3 weeks. We thought we were safe.

Well, as it turns out, we were safe. His first owner, upon hearing about our vet trips and how he sleeps with my son and how upset I was (my husband had to call because I was crying) said we could keep him.

Can you imagine?

She said she wanted him to be happy, and because we have kids and a big yard and between my husband and I we are home on and off during the day she thought he'd be happier with us.

I'd like to draw some parallels between our situation and adoption but I think I'd better not - a dog is not the same as a child, and it's not often you find a child in the middle of the road... (joking, people!)

Anyway, we experienced some serious kindness today. She could have asked for him back and we would have given him back to her - not happily, but it would have been the right thing to do. We are so thankful for her!

Why did it take three weeks for her to call???

Anyway, glad you got to keep him.

I think she just found out that we had him. She knew my name so I think she heard through an on-line notice I posted...but I thought the same thing! It all turned out well in the end.

I am glad that you were able to keep the dog, and that everything worked out for everyone! I can see some parallels too, but as you said we won't go there, seems to be a hot topic at times!

I guess all that is left to say is WELCOME HOME PEPPER!!!

I am new to this blog and am looking for support for me and my 15yr old with RADS. Recently, I had to have him placed in a residential facitility because he outlasted his stay at a Psychiatric Hospital. He was home for 2 weeks when he decided to beat up the principal and police chief then landed (unexpected punch) on my cheek. My experience with the court systems in trying to get the subsidy and more child support has been horrible. I had to go to court and be deemed incompetent in order for him to go somewhere for more treatment. I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience? Also, I am no stranger to RADS, as I have worked for the past 13 years with kids with Special Needs including RADS as a Behavior Specialist. I also developed a website for my women's study course I am taking. Please check it out and give any feed back. http://www.freewebs.com/radmoms
