If you are adopting a baby or toddler, you will want to purchase a stroller. Strollers are invaluable when you are walking around a store and need to keep your toddler stationary. Also, taking a walk with your child is fun, good exercise, and a great way to give your child some fresh air.

Carriages

I enjoyed using a baby carriage with my son when he was very young. I laid him flat and kept the sun off his skin with the canopy. We could look at each other as I walked, which we both enjoyed.

Strollers

When my son was old enough to sit up, I used a regular stroller with a tray so he could snack while we walked. He enjoyed looking around the park and interacting with the other babies when my friends and I walked together for exercise and fellowship.

One word of warning: Regular strollers are not built to walk 10-15 miles a week. I wore out two of them before I finally broke down and a bought a jogging stroller.

Jogging Strollers

Jogging strollers are fabulous for people who walk a lot. Instead of having plastic wheels, they have bicycle tires. The downside is that, like a bicycle, you can get a “flat” with these types of strollers, so be sure to keep an eye on the air pressure in the tires. I had an unfortunate experience with having to push a jogging stroller a couple of miles with a flat tire. I would not want to do that again.

Umbrella Strollers

Umbrella strollers are inexpensive strollers that fold up small, similar to an umbrella, for easy storage in your car’s trunk. I fought purchasing one for a long time because I already had a regular stroller. Once I broke down and bought one, I could not believe that I ever resisted having one. It took up very little space in my trunk, and it was much easier to maneuver when we went to a store together. I strongly suggest purchasing an umbrella stroller and keeping it in your car’s trunk at all times.
