Thank you for your comments.

Unfortunately, any time you choose to live your life in a different way than your extended family feels is the "norm," you run the risk of having to strike out on your own and not include them, even when that experience is a WONDERFUL experience. It is shame that families can be this way. I am so glad that you chose to do what was best for your nuclear family instead of being coerced into complying with your extended family. What matters is that the arrangement is working for you and your kid.

Take care,
I love this post - Good for you finding the best form of adoption and education for your child!

My husband and I run into problems as well with out families- they just don't understand...we do not exspect them to, by now my son is 1 - and our open adoption is working great for us, and we're passing through the guilt or thoghts put on us from others.

We have found what works for us and really enjoy how our journey is going. We made the decision to keep the topic of our adoption/contact to a minimum with family memebers- after we came to the conclusion that we can not educate them enough or get them to understand what we see or feel. So far this is going well, though it feels sad at times that we can not share our experience with those we love.

Thats life sometimes.
