Uh oh, part 2

Here's the link to my first post about little Mr. Uh Oh. Otherwise known as Peppermint, or Cutie Junior, or whatever his actual name is, given to him by his actual owners. I found him in the middle of the road yesterday afternoon. He's darling. The kids are thrilled. My husband is seriously annoyed.

For good reason. Mr. Uh Oh. barked and barked and barked until we let him in to sleep with Big J at about 11 p.m. Big J was so excited that he got up twice to report on what the dog was doing: "he's sleeping on my head!" He's scratching at something in the corner!"

My husband kept grumbling and sighing and I had a bad dream in which he left me because I'd done something really minor...like bringing home a puppy that I picked up on the side of the road.

This morning we put him back outside. He's running around, barking. I read a little bit online about how to get a dog to stop barking and it seems like a long process. Not something we are going to do since I've come 'round to my husband's position: the dog has got to go back to its original owners. Please.

The first thing I did this morning - before making coffee - was make a sign: FOUND. PUG DOG. Call ###-####

Oh my goodness, what an adorable pug, and what a good pet it would make. I have two myself (black and fawn) and they are wonderful.
I haven't found pugs to be barkers in general; he is probably excited about his "new home."

Oh, my friend just got a pug puppy and I had no idea how absolutely adorable they are. I'm so happy for your kids, no matter how long Mr. Uh oh is with you guys. What a cutie cute face.

Cute cute cute: One idea to stop barking.
Take a spray bottle. fill with water and put a little bit of vinegar in it. Spray the puppies nose when barking and say Sternly.NO barking... The vinegar won't hurt, but they don't like the smell. It only takes about three times before they understand.

BTW.... If you DO want them to guard your home, you let 'be alert' and then say, good guarding. (but that's another training session)..

Good luck with the puppy!

Last night he barked because he wanted in...and the other times he's barked I think it was to let the other dogs on our street know he was there. I think he'll calm down...if he stays!
Signs are up and I'm back to not wanting to get a phone call. He is sooooo cute.

And if you don't have a spray bottle with vinegar made up...

Febreze works just as well. Per the bottle's directions I avoid the eyes. And the dog smell nicer after the experience.

And yes.. I know you aren't suppose to spray a dog with Febreze. But when the puppy won't stop barking... and the bottle was sitting on the cabinet.

No barking last night - well, practically none. We brought him in, though. He was shivering! I'll have to wait until Big J gets up to see how the night went. Big J's such a trooper by offering to sleep with the dog.
I'll remember the Febreze thing. I heard plain water works as well. A spray bottle also works with cats who get on the kitchen counter. My only pet experiences until 2 days ago have been with cats...
