Want negativity? I'll give you negativity! Like a moth to a light I am drawn to these terrible stories of adoptions go awry....

Actually, I'd love to tell you about some happy adoption stories but if you search "adoption" through Google News there are way more scary, bad stories than there are good ones.

In case you are feeling too happy and need a downer, here are some links to some really sad situations:

Here's the story of a family who is suing their local social services department for placing a child with them who had been sexually abused. According to them, they made it very clear they did not want to parent a child with a background of sexual abuse but the county placed a child with them anyway...and didn't tell them of his past.

This story outlines the mess going on in Utah where a little boy, now age 2, was "adopted" by a family at 3 months old, but it turns out his parental rights (specifically, the father's rights) weren't legally terminated. Add to that his birth mother was a surrogate hired by the birth father, and the birth father has been convicted of fraud, and now the birth mother says she wasn't in her right mind when she placed the child with the adoptive parents...and you have a HUGE mess. Just huge.

Oh, and there's this sad story about the woman trying to "unadopt" the boy she adopted 6 years ago. Apparently he has molested other children...very, very sad.

A warning about adoption scams can be found here.

Nice, very nice.

If a moral can be drawn from these tragic stories it's a)trust NO ONE, and b)make sure everything is completely legal.

Next post: HAPPY news items about adoption. I will probably have to dig very deep for this, but I promise I'll find some.
